Reuben Droughns

3/3/2006

Droughns, who last season became the first Cleveland back to go over 1,000 yards since 1985, signed a three-year contract extension Friday. The 27-year-old lobbied the Browns for a long-term deal and general manager Phil Savage said he earned it with his performance last season. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The strained knee that limited Droughn's practice time last week did not prevent him from handling the bulk of the Browns' rushing load in a loss to the Bengals, as he finished with 74 yards on 21 carries. The running back is feeling even better this week, making it through Wednesday's full workout without any problems. Brown is listed as probable on the injury report, and the Browns fully expect him to be in the starting lineup for Sunday's meeting with the Raiders.

12/9/2005

Droughns returned to practice Thursday after sitting out the previous day with a sore knee. The running back is expected to play Sunday when Cleveland takes on Cincinnati.

12/8/2005

Coming off a season high-tying 30 carries in Sunday's loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, Droughns did not practice with the Cleveland Browns on Wednesday, due to a strained knee. However, according to head coach Romeo Crennel, the injury is considered minor at this point, and the running back is expected to be in the lineup for this weekend's matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals.

12/5/2005

Droughns tied a season high with 30 carries in Sunday's loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, finishing the contest with 88 yards on the ground. With the outing, the running back became the first Browns player to top 1,000 yards rushing since 1985 when Kevin Mack and Earnest Byner both topped the plateau.

11/21/2005

Droughns topped the century mark for the third time this year -- all coming within the last five games -- rushing for a season-high 166 yards on 30 carries in Sunday's win over the Miami Dolphins. The running back got off to a good start, rumbling 75 yards for a touchdown on the Browns' first offensive play of the game.

11/7/2005

Playing through painful leg cramps caused by dehydration, Droughns had his best game of the 2005 campaign in Sunday's 20-14 victory over the Tennessee Titans. The Browns' running back rushed for a season-high 116 yards on 20 carries and added four receptions for 73 yards, including a crucial 51-yard gain on a third-down play late in the contest.

11/2/2005

Droughns was arrested and charged with speeding and operating under the influence after being pulled over near Cleveland early Tuesday morning. The Browns' running back later was released without bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.

10/24/2005

Droughns recorded his first 100-yard outing of the 2005 campaign, hitting the century mark on the nose on 19 carries in Sunday's loss to the Detroit Lions. The running back logged all but three of the Browns' rushes in the game.

9/27/2005

Droughns claimed the Cleveland Browns' starting tailback job when Lee Suggs suffered a high ankle sprain late in training camp, and it doesn't appear that he will lose the gig any time soon. According to head coach Romeo Crennel, the former Bronco will be in the starting backfield for the foreseeable future, even though Suggs returned from the injury last week.

9/16/2005

According to Coach Romeo Crennel, Droughns will start at running back for the Browns when they face the Green Bay Packers this Sunday.

9/8/2005

With Lee Suggs still sidelined with a high ankle sprain, Droughns is slated to get the starting nod in Sunday's season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals. The running back, who was acquired from the Denver Broncos during the offseason, will be backed up by William Green. Droughns finished the 2004 campaign with 1,240 yards and six touchdowns on 275 carries, and 32 catches for 241 yards and two TDs.

8/25/2005

Projected starter Lee Suggs might not be ready for the start of the regular season, due to a high ankle sprain. As a result, Reuben Droughns has moved up a spot on the Browns' depth chart -- at least temporarily -- and will get the starting nod in Friday's exhibition game against the Carolina Panthers. The running back, who was acquired from the Denver Broncos during the offseason, will be backed up by William Green.

8/17/2005

After sitting out nearly a week with a nagging hamstring injury, Droughns has been practicing with the Browns the last few days and has looked good, according to head coach Romeo Crennel. The running back, who was acquired from the Denver Broncos this offseason, is still in the mix for top spot in Cleveland's backfield for the 2005 campaign.

8/11/2005

Droughns continues to be hampered by a nagging hamstring injury, and he admitted that he'll likely miss Saturday's preseason opener. The running back, who was acquired from the Denver Broncos during the offseason, was listed as the No. 2 tailback on the Browns' first depth chart released earlier this week. However, the injury could hurt his chances of remaining in the spot.

8/5/2005

Droughns has missed some practice time this week, due to a pulled hamstring. The extent of the injury has not been released, and Browns head coach Romeo Crennel said the running back will not return to the field until he's been cleared by the team's medical staff.
