Darrell Jackson

8/4/2006

Seattle Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren said wide receiver Darrell Jackson likely will not play until the team's Aug. 26 exhibition game at San Diego. Jackson, who had a career-high 87 receptions in 2004, had surgery on his right knee Oct. 12 to repair torn cartilage. He missed 10 games but returned to catch 20 passes in three playoff games, including five for 50 yards in Seattle's Super Bowl loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Seahawks receiver Jackson underwent knee surgery this week. The procedure is said to be less serious than the one that caused him to miss a total of 10 games last season.

Jackson, who has been bothered by soreness in his right knee and lower back, returned to practice Friday in preparation for next week's Super Bowl. Although the Seahawks' wide receiver didn't practice last week, he did catch six passes for 75 yards and a touchdown in Seattle's 34-14 victory over the Carolina Panthers last Sunday.

In addition to his troublesome knee, Jackson also is nursing a bruised back, an injury suffered in the first half of last weekend's victory over the Washington Redskins. Despite the new ailment, the receiver was able to return to the Seahawks' lineup, and he finished with nine catches for 143 yards -- both season highs.

In a season compromised by knee surgery that cost him nine games, Jackson turned in his best performance of the season Saturday in Seattle's 20-10 playoff win over Washington. The wide receiver's nine catches and 143 receiving yards were season highs for a single game, and his yardage total broke a Seahawks playoff record. Jackson topped the 137 receiving yards recorded by John L. Williams in a 1988 AFC divisional game.

Jackson won't be fully recovered from the knee surgery he underwent in October until he has a chance to rest for an extended period this offseason. However, the knee is strong enough, and the receiver plans to be available for the Seahawks' playoff run, which begins on Saturday against the Washington Redskins. Jackson appeared in just six regular-season games during the 2005 campaign, hauling in 38 passes for 482 yards and three touchdowns.

With the Seahawks' playoff position secured, Jackson was held out of the team's regular-season finale against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday to rest his surgically repaired knee. According to head coach Mike Holmgren, the receiver will be limited to one hour of practice each day this week, while spending the rest of his time strengthening the knee and receiving treatment.

12/27/2005

Jackson was in the Seahawks' starting lineup last weekend despite sitting out the majority of practices leading up to the contest. However, the receiver did not see any action in the second half, as the team decided to hold him out as a precautionary measure. It is likely that he will be limited again in Sunday's regular-season finale, as the Seahawks already have wrapped up their spot in the playoffs.

12/23/2005

The Seattle Times reports Jackson missed practice Thursday for the third straight day and will be a game-time decision this Saturday against Indianapolis. The Seahawks' receiver caught six passes for 72 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's win over the Tennessee Titans Sunday, his first action since Week 4.

12/20/2005

Jackson saw his first game action since Week 4, hauling in six passes for 72 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's win over the Tennessee Titans. The Seahawks' receiver, who had been sidelined for more than two months while recovering from a procedure to repair a torn meniscus in his knee, got the starting nod opposite Bobby Engram, pushing Joe Jurevicius back to the No. 3 hole.

12/13/2005

As long as he doesn't have any problems during practice this week, Jackson is expected to be back in the Seahawks' starting lineup opposite Bobby Engram for Sunday's matchup with the Tennessee Titans. The receiver has been sidelined for more than two months while recovering from a procedure to repair a torn meniscus in his knee. With Jackson's return, Joe Jurevicius will drop down a spot on the depth chart and serve as the team's No. 3 wideout.

12/12/2005

Jackson decided to give his surgically repaired right knee a little more time to recover, so he did not take the field in Sunday's matchup with the San Francisco 49ers. The receiver, who has been sidelined for more than two months while recovering from a procedure to repair a torn meniscus in his knee, will be re-evaluated later this week to determine if he'll be ready for the Seahawks' Week 15 tussle with the Tennessee Titans.

12/8/2005

According to Seahawks head coach Mike Holmgren, Jackson will practice with the team on Friday, then be evaluated on Saturday to see how his surgically repaired knee responds to the workout. Depending on the results, the veteran receiver could see his first game action in more than two months. Officially, he has been listed as questionable.

11/29/2005

According to head coach Mike Holmgren, the Seahawks are targeting Week 14 as the likely date for Jackson to return to the lineup. The receiver, who continues to recover from surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee, should resume practicing over the next couple of days, but he's not expected to see the field in Monday's meeting with the Philadelphia Eagles.

11/22/2005

Jackson has nearly recovered from surgery to repair a meniscus tear in his right knee, and he is expected to be cleared for practice this week. However, the receiver's work likely will be limited, as the Seahawks do not want to bring him back too quickly and risk further aggravation of the injury. At this point, it's highly doubtful that he will be ready for Sunday's matchup with the New York Giants, although he has yet to be ruled out officially.

11/15/2005

Jackson plans to resume running over the next several days, and if no problems are reported, he should be cleared to return to practice with the Seattle Seahawks as early as next week. The receiver has been sidelined since undergoing surgery to repair a meniscus tear in his right knee in early October.

11/8/2005

Jackson continues to recover from surgery to repair a meniscus tear in his right knee, but reportedly, he is still at least two weeks away from returning to the Seahawks' lineup. The receiver is scheduled to be re-evaluated next week to determine when he might be cleared for practice. He's been sidelined since early October.

10/13/2005

As scheduled, Jackson underwent surgery to repair damage in his ailing right knee on Wednesday. During the procedure, doctors found a larger meniscus tear than was anticipated originally, and the receiver is now expected to be sidelined for 4-6 weeks. The Seahawks had hoped that Jackson would be able to return in as quickly as two weeks, but it appears that likely will not be the case.

10/11/2005

According to Seahawks head coach Mike Holmgren, further tests on Jackson's ailing right knee have revealed loose cartilage from an old injury. The receiver, who is nursing a bone bruise as well, will undergo arthroscopic surgery on Wednesday to have the knee cleaned out. The Seahawks do not have an exact timetable for Jackson's return, but reportedly, he could miss more than a month.

10/8/2005

Jackson reportedly will undergo surgery next week for a damaged meniscus in his right knee, and is expected to miss at least four weeks. Jackson had gotten off to a fast start this season, with 29 catches for 376 yards and 2 touchdowns in Seattle's first four games.

10/7/2005

Jackson still has not practiced with the Seattle Seahawks this week, due to pain and swelling in his bruised right knee, and according to head coach Mike Holmgren, he will not play in Sunday's meeting with the St. Louis Rams. The receiver, officially listed as doubtful, should improve with rest, but the club currently does not know exactly how much time off he will need. Jackson will be re-evaluated early next week.

10/5/2005

Jackson, who had increased swelling in his ailing right knee on Monday, has been diagnosed with a bone bruise. According to head coach Mike Holmgren, the receiver is not expected to practice with the team this week, and he will be listed as doubtful on the injury report. Jackson is expected to be a game-time decision for Sunday's matchup with the St. Louis Rams.

10/4/2005

Reportedly, Jackson's sore right knee worsened during Sunday's battle with the Washington Redskins, but he was able to remain in the Seahawks' lineup. The wideout was sporting a large ice pack on his knee Monday, and he was unable to work out with the team. According to head coach Mike Holmgren, Jackson should be available for this weekend's game against the St. Louis Rams, but his practice time likely will be limited.

10/2/2005

Jackson had to go in for a knee checkup on Friday, but has been listed as probable on the Seahawks' injury report. Jackson will rejoin the team in Washington, and should be ready to go by game time for this week's showdown against the Redskins.

9/26/2005

Jackson nearly matched his Week 2 performance -- eight catches for 131 yards -- in Sunday's victory over the Arizona Cardinals, hauling in eight passes for 125 yards. The veteran receiver continues to be quarterback Matt Hasselbeck's favorite target in the Seahawks' passing attack.

9/19/2005

Although he failed to find the end zone, Jackson was quarterback Matt Hasselbeck's favorite target in Sunday's victory over the Atlanta Falcons, as he finished with eight catches for 131 yards. The Seahawks' receiver snagged six passes for 65 yards in the team's season opener last weekend.
