Shaun Alexander
3/6/2006
Alexander re-signed with the Seahawks for $62 million over eight years. The deal with the NFL rushing champion is the richest contract ever given to a running back. He will receive $15.1 million guaranteed.
2/7/2006
Alexander sprained his right foot in Sunday's 21-10 Super Bowl loss to the Steelers and his status is uncertain for the Pro Bowl on Sunday. The Seahawks' running back, who rushed for 95 yards on 20 carries in the defeat, will receive treatment leading up to his third consecutive Pro Bowl appearance. "If I can play, I'm going to play," Alexander said on Tuesday before flying to Honolulu.

Alexander showed no lingering effects from the concussion he suffered a week prior, leading the Seahawks to a 34-14 victory over the Carolina Panthers in Sunday's NFC Championship. The 2005 regular-season MVP picked up team playoff-record 132 yards and scored two touchdowns on 34 carries, handling the bulk of the team's rushing load.

After passing all tests, Alexander was cleared by doctors to return to action, and he participated in the Seahawks' workouts on Wednesday. The running back, who was the NFL's 2005 regular-season MVP, did not see any more action after suffering a concussion early in last weekend's playoff victory over the Washington Redskins. According to head coach Mike Holmgren, Alexander will not be limited in Sunday's NFC Championship game against the Carolina Panthers.

Feeling much better on Monday, Alexander passed all tests and is on pace to be ready for Sunday's NFC Championship game against the Carolina Panthers. The Seahawks' running back, who was the regular-season Most Valuable Player, was forced to leave last Saturday's victory over the Washington Redskins after suffering a concussion early in the game, but he's expected to return to practice with the team on Wednesday, according to head coach Mike Holmgren.

Alexander was knocked out of Seattle's playoff win early Saturday. The league's Most Valuable Player suffered a concussion in the first quarter after rushing for just nine yards on six carries. His absence didn't stop Matt Hasselbeck and the Seattle offense from generating enough points to come away with a 20-10 win over Washington.
1/5/2006
Alexander, who won the league rushing title and set an NFL record with 28 touchdowns, has been named the Associated Press Most Valuable Player for the 2005 campaign. The Seahawks' running back finished the season with 1,880 yards and 27 TDs on 370 carries, while also hauling in 15 passes for 78 yards and a score. He lost just one fumble all year.
1/1/2006
Alexander rushed for 61 yards in the first half against Green Bay, giving him the NFL rushing title for 2005. Going into Sunday's contest, the Seattle running back was 53 yards shy of New York's Tiki Barber, who played on Saturday, but an impressive first half pushed Alexander into the top spot.
12/29/2005
Alexander will start for the Seahawks this Sunday at Green Bay, after leaving the team Thursday to attend his aunt's funeral in Cincinnati. The running back scored three touchdowns in last Saturday's win over the Colts and has tied Priest Holmes' NFL record of 27 touchdowns in a season, which he set in 2003.
12/27/2005
Alexander will miss some practice time this week, as he will travel to Ohio following the death of his aunt on Monday. The running back, who scored three more touchdowns in Saturday's win over the Indianapolis Colts, plans to rejoin the Seahawks in time for this weekend's matchup with the Green Bay Packers.
12/19/2005
Alexander rushed for 172 yards on 26 carries in a 28-24 win over the Titans Sunday to become just the fifth player in NFL history to rush for 1,600 yards in consecutive seasons. The Seahawks' running back also scored his 24th touchdown of the season, an NFL best.
12/12/2005
Alexander's impressive 2005 campaign kept rolling in Sunday's win over the San Francisco 49ers, as he rushed for 108 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries. The Seahawks' running back also hauled in a season-high four passes for 20 yards. He has posted an NFL-record nine consecutive 100-yard outings in regular-season games against NFC West opponents.
12/6/2005
The Seattle Seahawks didn't need Alexander's services as much as usual in Monday night's 42-0 drubbing of the Philadelphia Eagles, and the running back was limited to fewer than 20 carries for just the second time this season. However, he took advantage of the opportunities he had, scoring two touchdowns. Finishing with 19 rushes on the night, Alexander posted a season-low 49 yards.
11/21/2005
Alexander rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries in Sunday's win over the San Francisco 49ers, topping the 100-yard mark for the seventh time this season, including three straight. The Seahawks' running back has notched seven TDs over the last three weeks and now has a career-high 19 rushing scores on the season. His 122.9 yards per game is also a personal best.
11/14/2005
Alexander turned in yet another strong performance, rumbling for 165 yards and three touchdowns on 33 carries in Sunday's victory over the St. Louis Rams. The Seahawks' running back, who has scored five times in his last two games, also became the first player in NFL history to post 15 TDs in five consecutive seasons.
11/7/2005
Alexander shook off an upset stomach to post his best rushing day of the 2005 campaign in Sunday's win over the Arizona Cardinals. The Seahawks' running back, who temporarily left the game in the second quarter to receive treatment, finished the day with a season-high 173 yards on 23 carries. He had touchdown runs of 88 and 14 yards.
10/17/2005
Alexander rumbled for 141 yards and scored four touchdowns in Sunday's 42-10 thumping of the Houston Texans. The Seahawks' running back already has 12 TDs on the year, joining San Diego's LaDainian Tomlinson as the only players in NFL history to rush for at least 10 touchdowns for five consecutive seasons.
10/10/2005
Alexander topped the century mark for the third time in his last four games, rushing for 119 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 37-31 victory over the St. Louis Rams. After failing to find the end zone in the Seahawks' season opener, the running back has notched eight touchdowns over the last four weeks.
9/26/2005
Alexander led the Seattle Seahawks to a 37-12 victory over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, rushing for 140 yards and four touchdowns on 22 carries. Three of the running back's scores came from one yard, while the other was a 25-yard jaunt. Following a fairly quiet Week 1, Alexander has 284 yards rushing in his last two games.
9/19/2005
After getting just 14 carries in the Seahawks' season opener last week, Alexander saw an increased workload in Sunday's victory over the Atlanta Falcons, rushing 28 times for 144 yards and a touchdown. He also picked up 11 yards on two receptions in the 21-18 win.
8/12/2005
Alexander likely will be limited to a couple of series, but he'll be in the starting lineup when the Seahawks take the field for a preseason game against the New Orleans Saints on Friday. The running back's availability had been in question after he missed some time earlier this week with a strained hamstring, but he practiced without incident both Tuesday and Wednesday.
8/8/2005
At this point, Alexander's availability for the Seahawks first preseason game -- a matchup with the Saints on Friday -- is in question. The running back has been unable to work out with the team the last several days, due to a strained hamstring. Officially, he is listed as day-to-day. Last season, Alexander became the first player in NFL history to score 15 or more touchdowns during the regular season for four consecutive years
7/27/2005
Alexander agreed to terms on Tuesday on a one-year deal with the Seahawks that will pay him $6.32 million for the 2005 campaign. The new contract stipulates that Seattle won't be able to slap the franchise tag on Alexander at the end of this year, nor will they be able to trade him during the '05 season. In essence, he will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. The running back is expected to report to training camp on Thursday.
7/16/2005
The Seattle Seahawks re-opened contract negotiations with Alexander's agent on Friday. Under the terms of the NFL rules governing players given the franchise player tag, Seattle could not negotiate with the running back from mid-March until yesterday.
7/5/2005
Alexander currently has a one-year, $6.32 million franchise tender offer on the table, but has said he will not sign the deal. The running back will wait to come to an agreement on a long-term contract with the Seattle Seahawks before taking the field. The two sides will resume talks on July 15, when allowed to do so.
