John Abraham
3/21/2006
Abraham was traded to Atlanta on Tuesday as part of a three-way deal involving the Jets and the Broncos. The Pro Bowl defensive end had been seeking a trade the entire offseason after the Jets placed their franchise tag on Abraham for the second straight year. Abraham had 10.5 sacks in 2005.

The New York Jets designated Abraham as their franchise player for the second straight year, meaning the standout defensive end will make at least $8.33 million this season. Abraham was unhappy with the team's decision last season and waited until the end of training camp to sign. He had 10.5 sacks in last season, but was hoping the team would sign him to a long-term contract.

Abraham has ended his extended holdout, reporting to camp with the Jets on Monday after signing the team's one-year, $6.67 million franchise tender. The defensive end, who was in search of a long-term deal, will not play in Thursday's preseason finale against the Philadelphia Eagles, but he plans to be ready for the regular-season opener at Kansas City in a couple of weeks.

Still in search of a long-term deal, Abraham is expected to hold out when the New York Jets begin training camp next week. The defensive end was designated as the team's franchise player earlier this year, but he has yet to ink the one-year, $6.7 million contract currently on the table.
