Peter Warrick

Seahawks head coach Mike Holmgren has decided to hand over the team's punt-return duties to Warrick, beginning with Sunday's NFC Championship game against the Carolina Panthers. During the regular season, the receiver took six punts back for a total of 29 yards, and for his career, he's averaged 9.3 yards per return with two touchdowns. He replaces cornerback Jimmy Williams.

According to Seahawks head coach Mike Holmgren, Warrick's surgically repaired knee has been giving him some problems recently, and the team plans to cut back his offensive work, at least for the time being, allowing the leg to improve. However, the coach admitted that the receiver might not be back to full strength until he's had an offseason to recover.

After missing Sunday's loss to the Washington Redskins with a groin injury, Warrick is slated to return to practice with the Seahawks this week, and barring any setbacks, he will be available for this weekend's tussle with the St. Louis Rams. The receiver has just one catch for 42 yards this season, and he's averaged 4.8 yards on six punt returns.

Battling a groin injury, Warrick was unable to work out with the Seattle Seahawks on Wednesday, and his availability for Sunday's meeting with the Washington Redskins currently is up in the air. The club has listed the reserve receiver as questionable. Warrick has just one catch for 42 yards this season, and he's averaged 4.8 yards on six punt returns.

In addition to serving as the Seahawks' top punt returner, Warrick is expected to see more time on offense in this weekend's meeting with the Atlanta Falcons. The receiver, who signed with Seattle after being released by the Cincinnati Bengals last month, will serve as a backup to starters Darrell Jackson and Bobby Engram.

Warrick has signed with the Seattle Seahawks, agreeing to a one-year contract. Financial terms were not released, but the deal reportedly is worth $1.4 million, including a $500,000 signing bonus. The receiver, who was the fourth overall pick in the 2000 NFL Draft, was slowed by shin, knee and hamstring injuries last season and in training camp this year, prompting the Cincinnati Bengals to waive him earlier this week.

After missing the majority of the 2004 season and being limited in training camp this year, Warrick has been released by the Cincinnati Bengals. The receiver, who was the fourth overall pick in the 2000 NFL Draft, was slowed by shin, knee and hamstring injuries, prompting the Bengals to make the move. By being cut early, Warrick hopes to catch on with another team before the start of the season.
8/28/2005
Warrick missed his second preseason game on Friday when he sat out of the Bengals' contest with the Eagles. The sixth-year receiver is resting knee and hamstring injuries, and was held out due to lack of practice.
8/15/2005
As anticipated, Warrick was back on the field with the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday and took part in the majority of the team's workouts. Although he's still questionable for Friday's exhibition matchup against the Washington Redskins, the receiver has nearly recovered from the shin and knee injuries that plagued him in 2004. Expect the Bengals to be very cautious with Warrick over the next couple of weeks.
8/10/2005
Barring any setbacks, Warrick should be cleared to resume practicing with the Bengals within the next week. The receiver saw action in just four games last season due to knee and shin injuries, and in the process lost the No. 2 wideout job to T.J. Houshmandzadeh. He tallied just 11 receptions in 2004, one year after setting career highs with 79 catches for 819 yards and seven touchdowns in '03.

Warrick still has not been given medical clearance to resume team drills, and the timetable for the wide receiver's full return to the practice field remains a moving target. He saw action in just four games for the Bengals last season due to knee and shin injuries, and in the process lost the No. 2 wideout job to T.J. Houshmandzadeh. Warrick tallied just 11 receptions in 2004, one year after setting career highs with 79 catches for 819 yards and seven touchdowns in '03.
