Courtney Brown

8/10/2006

Brown underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Wedneday, the Denver Broncos announced Thursday. The Broncos defensive end is expected to miss all four of Denver's preseason games but should return for the Sept. 10 regular season opener against the St. Louis Rams.

Brown signed a contract extension through the 2009 season with the Denver Broncos Tuesday. The 28-year-old defensive end joined Denver last season as a free agent after playing five seasons with the Cleveland Browns.

After missing more than a month with a dislocated left elbow, Brown has been practicing without incident this week, and he should make his Broncos debut in Sunday's meeting with the San Diego Chargers. The defensive end, who was the top overall pick in the 2000 NFL Draft, is listed as probable on the team's injury report.

As the Denver Broncos had hoped, Brown returned to practice with the team on Monday after missing more than three weeks with a dislocated left elbow. If no problems are reported over the next couple of days, the defensive end, who was the top overall pick in the 2000 NFL Draft, should see some action in Friday's preseason finale against the Arizona Cardinals.

Brown just cannot dodge the injury bug. He will miss 3-6 weeks with a dislocated left elbow, leaving his availability for the start of the '05 regular season very much in question.
