Jose Cortez
12/21/2005
Cortez has signed with the Indianapolis Colts, joining his fourth team of the 2005 campaign. The veteran kicker, who also spent time with the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers, is expected to serve as the team's kickoff specialist. Mike Vanderjagt will continue to handle field goals and extra-point attempts.
12/6/2005
With regular kicker Joe Nedney returning from a groin injury over the weekend, Cortez became expendable and he was released by the San Francisco 49ers on Tuesday. He will be replaced on the roster by safety Marques Anderson.
11/28/2005
After being released by the Philadelphia Eagles last week, Cortez signed with the San Francisco 49ers in time to handle the team's kicking duties in Sunday's meeting with the Tennessee Titans. He was filling in for regular kicker Joe Nedney, who was inactive because of a groin injury.
11/22/2005
With David Akers recovered from his leg injury, Cortez has been released by the Philadelphia Eagles. The veteran kicker filled in during Akers' absence, hitting 12 of 16 field-goal attempts, but most recently was handling kickoff duties only. He will be replaced on the roster by quarterback Jeff Smoker.
10/26/2005
Cortez will handle the kicking duties for the Philadelphia Eagles in Sunday's matchup with the Denver Broncos, filling in for David Akers, who continues to recover from a torn hamstring. Claimed off waivers from the Dallas Cowboys earlier this week, Cortez has hit 12 of his 16 field-goal attempts in seven games this season and is 13-for-14 on point-after tries.
10/25/2005
The Philadelphia Eagles have claimed Cortez off waivers from the Dallas Cowboys. The kicker was let go on Monday, just a day after missing a costly 29-yard field goal in a loss to the Seattle Seahawks. He takes the roster spot of Todd France, who was released by the Eagles on Tuesday.
10/24/2005
Following a costly missed field goal in Sunday's 13-10 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, Cortez has been waived by the Dallas Cowboys. The kicker, who was 12 of 16 for the season, will be replaced on the roster by rookie Shaun Suisham.
8/24/2005
Cortez has moved up to the top spot on the Cowboys' depth chart, as the injured Billy Cundiff was released by the club on Wednesday. The veteran kicker, who handled kickoffs only for the Minnesota Vikings over the last two seasons, inked with Dallas earlier this month. He has not attempted a field goal in a regular-season game since 2002 with Washington.
8/7/2005
Cortez signed with the Dallas Cowboys after working out with the team on Saturday. The veteran kicker, who handled kickoffs only for the Minnesota Vikings over the last two seasons, was signed after the Cowboys waived injured kicker Brett Visintainer. Cortez hasn't attempted a field goal since 2002 with Washington.
