The Falcons got the bad news they expected Monday: Finneran is out for the season after tearing up his left knee in practice. Finneran, one of quarterback Michael Vick's favorite targets, went down during a workout Sunday night as he practiced a one-on-one drill with rookie cornerback Jimmy Williams. Beginning with Monday night's matchup with the New York Jets, Finneran will step into a starting role for the Atlanta Falcons, replacing the struggling Dez White, who has been demoted to the bottom of the team's depth chart. In six games this season, Finneran has 19 catches for 238 yards and one touchdown.

Finneran is expected to see an increased role in the Falcons' offensive attack this week, as he is slated to step into the starting lineup should Dez White be forced to sit out with a hamstring injury. In two games this season, the veteran receiver has hauled in seven passes for 47 yards and a touchdown.
