Jeff Garcia

12/21/2005

Looking to spark the Lions' struggling offense, interim head coach Dick Jauron has decided to bench Garcia in favor of Joey Harrington for at least Saturday's matchup with the New Orleans Saints, and most likely, the rest of the season. Garcia has struggled to get on track after recovering from a broken leg, going 102 of 173 for 937 yards, three touchdowns and six interceptions in six games, including five starts. He also added a rushing TD.

12/19/2005

Garcia completed 13 of 21 passes for 138 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions before being replaced by Joey Harringotn early in the fourth quarter of a 41-17 loss to the Bengals Sunday. The Lions' quarterback had started three straight games, all losses.

After missing three weeks with soreness in the leg he fractured earlier this year, Garcia returned to action in last weekend's game against the Atlanta Falcons, replacing the struggling Joey Harrington late in the first half. The veteran quarterback has declared himself healthy enough to reclaim the starting role, and he will do so in Sunday's matchup with the Minnesota Vikings, according to interim head coach Dick Jauron.

11/23/2005

Garcia and Joey Harrington have been splitting snaps in practice this week, but the Lions have yet to officially announce which quarterback will get the start in Thursday's meeting with the Atlanta Falcons. According to head coach Steve Mariucci, a decision already has been made, but it will not be released to the media until shortly before kickoff on Thanksgiving.

11/15/2005

Garcia continues to be bothered by soreness in the leg he broke earlier this year, but once he declares himself ready for game action, he will return to the Lions' starting lineup, according to head coach Steve Mariucci. The veteran quarterback has missed the team's last two contests with the discomfort, allowing Joey Harrington to temporarily claim the top spot. Garcia currently is questionable for Sunday's matchup with the Dallas Cowboys.

11/10/2005

Garcia hasn't seen much work in the Lions' practices this week, and he will not be in the starting lineup for Sunday's matchup with the Arizona Cardinals, according to head coach Steve Mariucci. The veteran quarterback, who will be replaced by Joey Harrington, started two consecutive games for Detroit before missing last weekend's loss to the Minnesota Vikings with discomfort in the leg he broke during the preseason.

11/7/2005

According to Lions head coach Steve Mariucci, Garcia won't be able to work out with the team until at least Wednesday, and his availability for next weekend's matchup with the Arizona Cardinals is in question. The veteran quarterback started two consecutive games for Detroit before missing Sunday's loss to the Minnesota Vikings with discomfort in the leg he broke during the preseason.

11/3/2005

Garcia should be available for backup duty, if needed, but because of discomfort in the left leg he fractured earlier this year, he will not be in the Lions' starting lineup for Sunday's matchup with the Minnesota Vikings. The veteran quarterback has made two starts since returning from the injury, but after taking a beating last weekend, he's been unable to practice with the team this week. Joey Harrington will get the nod in his stead.

11/1/2005

Garcia has admitted that he continues to be bothered by pain in the leg he broke earlier this year, and he'll probably miss some time this week as a result. For now, the veteran quarterback is considered as day-to-day, but he'll likely show up as questionable on the Lions' injury report. Look for his status to be updated on Friday or Saturday, once he's been able to test things out on the practice field.

10/24/2005

Taking over the Lions' starting job from the struggling Joey Harrington, Garcia got off to a slow start in Sunday's meeting with the Cleveland Browns, but got on track in the second half and led Detroit to a 13-10 victory. The veteran quarterback, who missed the first five games of the season while recovering from a broken leg, went 22 of 34 for 210 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. He scored a TD on the ground, punching it in from one yard out.

10/23/2005

According to ESPN, Garcia will be the starting quarterback for the Lions in Week 7 against the Browns. He replaces the struggling Joey Harrington, who is the lowest-rated passer in the league. Garcia, who started 10 games for Cleveland last season, has been out of the lineup since breaking a bone in the leg in Detroit's preseason finale in late August.

10/19/2005

Garcia split time in practice with the first-string team with Joey Harrington Wednesday, giving rise to talk that he could tapped as the starting quarterback for this week's game against the Cleveland Browns.

10/13/2005

Although he's already been ruled out for this weekend's meeting with the Carolina Panthers, Garcia has expanded his workouts recently, and there is a chance he could be available for a Week 7 showdown with the Cleveland Browns, his former team. The Lions' veteran quarterback has been sidelined since breaking a bone in the leg in the team's preseason finale in late August.

9/29/2005

Garcia is still at least a month away from returning to action, but he had the cast removed from his left leg earlier this week and has begun a rehabilitation program. The Lions' veteran quarterback has been sidelined since breaking a bone in the leg in the team's preseason finale last month.

9/6/2005

After consulting with a leg and ankle specialist on Tuesday, it was determined that Garcia will not need surgery to repair the broken bone in his left leg. The Lions' quarterback suffered the injury -- as well as a sprained left ankle -- in the team's preseason finale late last week. He is expected to be sidelined at least six weeks.

9/3/2005

Garcia is expected to miss at least six weeks after breaking his fibula in the Lions' final preseason game against Buffalo on Friday night. the veteran quarterback also injured his ankle, but a MRI on Saturday was inconclusive about the severity of this injury. Garcia will undergo more tests.
