Edgerrin James

3/12/2006

James signed a four-year contract with the Arizona Cardinals worth $30.5 million, $11.5 of which is guaranteed, in a surprising move Saturday. James will earn $14.75 million in 2006. The former University of Miami star had spent all of his seven seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, who had selected him with the fourth overall pick in the 1999 draft.

12/30/2005

As was the case last weekend, James will be in the starting lineup for Sunday's regular-season finale against the Arizona Cardinals, but his playing time will be limited in hopes of avoiding injury and being ready for the upcoming playoffs. The Colts' running back got 16 touches last week, and his carries are expected to be even fewer this time around. Dominic Rhodes and James Mungro will handle the bulk of the rushing load.

12/20/2005

With home-field advantage throughout the playoffs secured and their perfect record no longer intact, the Indianapolis Colts will treat their final two games of the regular season as preseason contests, according to head coach Tony Dungy. The team does not want to risk any injuries to their regulars, so even though James should be in the starting lineup, his touches will be limited over the next couple of weeks.

12/19/2005

James scored his 64th career rushing touchdown Sunday to set the Colts' franchise record, previously held by Lenny Moore (63) of the Baltimore Colts. Although James made history, he was held to a season-low 25 yards in the Colts' 26-17 loss to San Diego, their first of the season.

12/5/2005

With Sunday's performance against the Tennessee Titans, James became the third-fastest player in NFL history to rush for 9,000 yards, accomplishing the feat in 93 games. The running back, who had 107 yards on 28 carries in the contest, ranks behind Eric Dickerson (82 games) and Jim Brown (88).

11/29/2005

Despite failing to reach the end zone for the first time in seven games, James notched his eighth 100-yard performance of the 2005 campaign in Monday night's victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Colts' running back, who currently ranks second in the league in rushing behind Seattle's Shaun Alexander, also did not have a reception for the first time this year.

11/21/2005

James failed to reach the century mark for the first time in six games, rushing for 89 yards on 24 carries in Sunday's victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. However, the Colts' running back, who also had three catches for 18 yards, found the end zone twice in the win, giving him 10 TDs over his last six contests.

11/14/2005

James displayed his consistency once again in Sunday's 31-17 victory over the Houston Texans, topping the century mark for the seventh time in nine games this season. The Colts' running back rushed for 122 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries. Receiver Marvin Harrison and James now have posted 100 yards or more in the same game 21 times, breaking the previous NFL record of 20 held by the Cowboys' Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin.

11/8/2005

In Monday night's victory over the New England Patriots, James rushed for more than 100 yards for the sixth time in his last seven games, including four straight. The Colts' running back, who has been consistent all season, finished with 104 yards and a touchdown on 34 carries. He has scored seven times in his last four contests.

10/24/2005

After scoring just one rushing touchdown in his first four games of the 2005 campaign, James has found the end zone six times in his last three contests and currently leads the NFL in rushing yardage. In Sunday's victory over the Houston Texans, the Colts' running back scampered for 139 yards and two TDs on 21 carries, leading the team to a 38-20 win.

10/18/2005

James had his best game of the season on Monday night against the Rams, rushing for 143 yards and scoring three touchdowns. He added three receptions for 16 yards. This was the fourth 100-yard game of the season for the Colts' running back.

10/10/2005

Despite losing his first fumble of the season, James posted solid totals in Sunday's victory over the San Francisco 49ers, rushing for 105 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries and hauling in four passes for 42 yards. The Colts' running back has at least 20 carries and more than 85 yards rushing in each of his five games this season.

9/26/2005

James topped 100 yards rushing for the second consecutive week and scored his first touchdown of the 2005 campaign, helping lead the Colts to a 13-6 victory over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. The running back picked up 108 yards on 27 carries and hauled in two passes for 29 yards. His two-yard TD run came in the first quarter.

9/19/2005

James topped the 100-yard plateau for the first time this season, rushing for 128 yards on 27 carries in Sunday's 10-3 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Colts' running back also hauled in four passes for 39 yards, but he has yet to score a touchdown in 2005.

8/1/2005

James reversed his original position on Monday and now says he plans to be with the team when Indianapolis travels to Tokyo to face the Falcons in the American Bowl on Saturday. James originally indicated that he would not make the trip amidst speculation that his decision was due to his aversion both to preseason games and flying. When asked again on Monday if he had decided to go to Japan, James said that he "didn't have a lot of options."

7/27/2005

James is expected to be among the players who will report to Rose-Hulman Institute Wednesday for the opening day of Colts training camp, though he indicated that he would not join the team when it travels to Japan to open the preseason in Tokyo against the Falcons on August 6. James signed a one-year, $8.1 million deal in the offseason as the club's franchise player, but his unhappiness over a lack of progress towards a long-term deal fueled speculation of a holdout.

6/9/2005

In a recent interview with ESPN.com, James said that he has no intention of holding out of any regular-season games despite his unhappiness over not being offered a long-term contract. The Colts slapped the franchise tag on their star running back in the offseason, and James is scheduled to make a base salary of $8.1 million in 2005. James already has missed a mandatory three-day minicamp this offseason, as well as all voluntary summer school workouts.

5/20/2005

James was a no-show for the first day of the Colts' mandatory minicamp on Friday. The running back, who signed a one-year franchise tender with the team in March, has expressed his desire either to receive a long-term deal or be traded. James' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, has declined to comment at this time on his client's status. James posted 2,031 combined rushing and receiving yards last season, and scored nine touchdowns.
