David Akers

11/7/2005

Akers has signed a five-year extension that will keep him under contract with the Philadelphia Eagles through the 2010 campaign. Financial terms of the new deal were not released. As anticipated, the kicker returned to action in Sunday's matchup with the Washington Redskins after missing the team's previous four contests with a torn hamstring.

11/2/2005

Akers has been sidelined since Week 3 with a torn hamstring, but after testing out the leg during the Eagles' practice on Wednesday, he is confident that he'll be available for Sunday's matchup with the Washington Redskins. The veteran kicker is just 2 of 5 on field-goal attempts this season, but has nailed 82.5 percent in his NFL career.

Eagles head coach Andy Reid has changed his tune a bit, saying Akers should return within the next few weeks, not necessarily by Week 9, as had been reported over the past couple of days. The kicker, who continues to recover from a torn hamstring, will not be available for this Sunday's meeting with the Denver Broncos.

10/25/2005

Akers plans to expand his workouts over the next several days, and if no problems are reported, he could be available for Sunday's meeting with the Denver Broncos. According to Eagles head coach Andy Reid, the kicker, who has been sidelined since Week 3 with a torn hamstring, will be back in action by Week 9, at the latest.

10/17/2005

Despite having the bye week to rest his ailing leg, Akers still won't be available when the Eagles resume play against the San Diego Chargers this weekend. However, the kicker, who has been sidelined since Week 3 with a torn hamstring, has vowed to return before the end of the season. Todd France will continue to handle the kicking duties for Philadelphia until Akers can get back on the field.

10/5/2005

According to Eagles head coach Andy Reid, second opinions on Akers' ailing right leg have confirmed the original diagnosis of a torn hamstring. The kicker already has been ruled out of Sunday's meeting with the Dallas Cowboys, and a timetable for his return has not been set. Todd France will continue to handle the kicking duties for Philadelphia until Akers can get back on the field.

An MRI on Akers' ailing leg has revealed a torn right hamstring, and injury aggravated on the opening kickoff of Sunday's win over the Oakland Raiders. According to Eagles head coach Andy Reid, the kicker likely will miss at least this week's meeting with the Kansas City Chiefs, and a timetable for his return has not been set. Todd France likely will be promoted from the practice squad to fill the void in Akers' absence.

Akers is active for today's tilt against the Oakland Raiders.

9/22/2005

Akers is listed as questionable on the Eagles' injury report this week, but after kicking field goals without any problems during Wednesday's practice session, he is confident that he'll be available for Sunday's matchup with the Oakland Raiders. The kicker was a bit limited last weekend after suffering a minor strain of his hamstring.

9/19/2005

Akers temporarily was forced to leave Sunday's win over the San Francisco 49ers after straining his hamstring on a kickoff in the first half. The Eagles' turned to linebacker Mark Simoneau to fill in on one extra-point attempt, while tight end Mike Bartrum handled the kickoff duties. Akers returned later in the contest and converted the rest of the team's point-after tries.

The Philadelphia Eagles might limit Akers' workouts early this week after the kicker suffered a bruised knee in Saturday's exhibition victory over the Baltimore Ravens. However, the injury is not considered serious, and he should be ready for the team's next preseason contest.
