Donovin Darius

9/20/2005

An MRI has revealed that Darius has a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. The Jaguars' safety, who went down in the second quarter of Sunday's 10-3 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, will be forced to undergo surgery and miss the rest of the 2005 campaign. He will be placed on injured reserve.

Darius was unable to return to the Jacksonville Jaguars' lineup after spraining his left knee in the second quarter of Sunday's 10-3 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. Very few details about the injury have been released, but the team fears the safety could have damage to his anterior cruciate ligament. He will undergo an MRI on Monday.

Darius finally has come to terms with the Jaguars on a long-term contract, this after being slapped with the team's franchise tag in each of the past three offseasons. The three-year pact begins in 2006. Darius will make $4.97 million this season under the terms of the one-year qualifying offer that the strong safety signed during the offseason.

Darius has reported to the Jaguars' training complex, and the franchise safety said that he plans to partake in the club's voluntary workouts next week. Darius, who has been hit with the franchise tag for the third straight season, skipped Jacksonville's mandatory minicamp last weekend and was fined by the team. The seven-year veteran had lobbied to be traded this offseason, but potential partners all found the Jags' asking price to be too high.
