Terry Fair

12/8/2005

Bothered by the neck injury he originally suffered late in the preseason, Fair has been placed on injured reserve by the St. Louis Rams, officially ending his 2005 campaign. The veteran cornerback saw limited action in just five games this season, finishing the year with three tackles.

Fair was back with the St. Louis Rams Tuesday afternoon, shortly after being released from the hospital. The veteran cornerback was held overnight for observation after suffering a sprained neck in the team's Monday night preseason matchup with the Detroit Lions. According to head coach Mike Martz, Fair will take a few days off, but he should be available for the start of the regular season, barring any setbacks.

Fair was placed on a stretcher, carted off the field and taken to a hospital after spraining his neck when his head hit running back Kevin Jones' thigh on a tackle in Monday's preseason meeting with the Detroit Lions. All tests were negative, and the veteran cornerback likely will be released from the hospital on Tuesday. For now, he has been listed as day-to-day.

Fair, a former first-round pick who has battled injuries and not played in the NFL since 2002, signed a one-year contract Thursday with the St. Louis Rams. The cornerback has played in 52 career games, recording 235 tackles and seven interceptions. He has battled leg injuries for most of his career and last played for Carolina in 2002.
