Lewis has re-signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, filling the roster spot of receiver Terrell Owens, who was added to the suspended list. The team did not retain the veteran tight end for the 2005 campaign after he suffered a foot injury in the 2004 playoffs, requiring offseason surgery. He has been selected to the Pro Bowl three times in his NFL career.
