The Browns have agreed to release Verba as soon as the offensive lineman repays a $465,000 roster bonus. Verba has been upset that the team is not willing to renegociate his current contract, which goes through 2006. The guard already has sat out a voluntary passing camp this offseason, and has said that he is ready to play somewhere else. A first-round pick in 1997, Verba played four years in Green Bay and has spent the past three seasons in Cleveland.

Verba expressed hope Friday that Cleveland's signing of L.J. Shelton would lead to his own release. Verba, who is under contract for two more years at $2.95 million per season, has been holding out, reporting looking for a deal in the neighborhood of five years and $38.5 million. Teh tackle has said that he will sit out the 2005 season if the Browns do not come through with a bigger contract offer.
