Ike Hilliard

3/20/2006

The Buccaneers re-signed receiver Hilliard to a four-year deal.

Hilliard will remain in the Buccaneers' starting lineup opposite Joey Galloway, as second-year wideout Michael Clayton has been ruled out of Saturday's Wild Card meeting with the Washington Redskins, due to a nagging turf toe injury. The nine-year veteran receiver, who is in his first season with Tampa Bay, finished the regular season with 35 catches for 282 yards and one touchdown in 16 games.

With Michael Clayton highly questionable with a bruised knee, Hilliard will get the starting nod opposite Joey Galloway in Sunday's meeting with the Washington Redskins, according to Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden. The veteran receiver, who inked with Tampa Bay this summer after spending his first eight NFL campaigns with the New York Giants, has 17 catches for 114 yards in eight games this season.

After spending his first eight NFL seasons with the New York Giants, Hilliard has agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The former first-round pick, who was released by the Giants in a salary cap move in March, finished the 2004 campaign with 49 catches for 437 yards in 16 games, but failed to find the end zone.
