Adam Vinatieri
8/15/2006
Vinatieri suffered a sprained ankle and missed the Colts' Tuesday morning practice session. Colts coach Tony Dungy said the kicker injured the ankle while running on Monday and is listed as day-to-day.

The Colts have signed away Vinatieri from the Patriots, hurting one of their chief rivals in the AFC in the process. The kicker agreed in principle to a deal with Indianapolis, meaning the Colts now have one of the most clutch kickers in NFL history on their side.
2/26/2006
The New England Patriots declined to sign Vinatieri, passing on the chance to give the kicker a "franchise player" tag for the second straight year. The Patriots have until March 3 to change their minds, but without the tag, the team will not be compensated if he signs with someone else. The tag would assure Vinatieri a one-year $3 million offer.

Vinatieri kicked three field goals and an extra point in Sunday's win over the New York Jets. The 10-point day gave the kicker 1,134 career points, moving him past Gino Cappelletti for the most in Patriots history.
