Reggie Tongue

11/29/2005

Tests have revealed that Tongue has a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, an injury suffered in Sunday's loss to the Miami Dolphins. The Raiders' safety, who is scheduled to undergo surgery on Wednesday, will be placed on injured reserve in the coming days, officially ending his 2005 season.

The Jets released Tongue on Wednesday, severing ties with the safety who started all 16 games for New York last season. Tongue recorded 55 tackles, 17 assists and an interception in his brief one-season stay. The Jets already had safeties Jon McGraw and Erik Coleman on the roster, and the team added safeties Kerry Rhodes and Andre Maddox in the 2005 draft. Tongue has played nine seasons in the NFL, four with Kansas City and four with Seattle before joining New York.
