Ray Mickens

8/18/2005

After being released by the New York Jets earlier this month, Mickens has signed a one-year contract with the Cleveland Browns. Since being selected by the Jets in the third round of the 1996 NFL Draft, the veteran cornerback has recorded 352 tackles, 11 interceptions, six sacks and five forced fumbles. He became expendable when New York inked Ty Law.

Mickens was slated to start at cornerback for the Jets this season, but now he is looking for work after the team released him on Monday. The move was made to make room on the roster for Ty Law, who signed a multiyear contract. Mickens missed all of last season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
