Tedy Bruschi

8/9/2006

Bruschi has a broken wrist and will not play in any preseason games, coach Bill Belichick said early Wednesday through a team spokesman. It was not clear whether Bruschi, 33, will be available for the Patriots' regular-season opener Sept. 10 against the Buffalo Bills.

Bruschi is not listed on the New England Patriots' injury report this week, and he is expected to be available for Saturday's playoff matchup with the Denver Broncos. Nursing a strained calf, the veteran linebacker missed the team's regular-season finale, as well as last weekend's Wild Card victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Bruschi sat out the Patriots' 28-3 Wild Card win over the Jaguars Saturday because of a calf injury. The veteran linebacker was in uniform but missed his second straight game. Earlier in the week, Bruschi was named the co-winner of the Associated Press Comeback Player of the Year award, sharing the honors with Carolina receiver Steve Smith.

Bruschi has been named the co-winner of the Associated Press Comeback Player of the Year award, sharing the honors with Carolina receiver Steve Smith. The veteran linebacker was expected to miss the entire 2005 campaign after suffering a mild stroke less than two weeks after the 2004 Super Bowl, but he was back in the Patriots' lineup in Week 8 against the Buffalo Bills. He appeared in nine games on the year, collecting 63 tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble.

The leg ailment that forced Bruschi to leave Monday night's win over the New York Jets has been diagnosed as a calf problem. According to head coach Bill Belichick, the veteran linebacker was battling only some tightness in the leg, but reportedly, the injury could be as serious as a torn muscle. Bruschi left the stadium walking under his own power.

10/29/2005

Just about eight months after suffering a mild stroke, Bruschi is ready to play in a NFL game. The linebacker was activated by the Patriots from its physically unable to perform list on Saturday, making him available to play when the Pats face the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night.

10/26/2005

Bruschi reported no problems after taking part in the Patriots full-contact practice on Wednesday, his first such workout since suffering a mild stroke more than eight months ago. The veteran linebacker will continue to expand his involvement over the next couple of days, and there is a chance he could play in Sunday's meeting with the Buffalo Bills.

10/20/2005

As anticipated, Bruschi was back on the field with the New England Patriots on Wednesday, albeit on a limited basis. The linebacker, who has been sidelined since suffering a mild stroke last February, was cleared to return to action earlier this week and will need some time to get back into game shape. The Pats will work him back into the lineup slowly.

10/17/2005

Bruschi has received unanimous medical clearance to return to action, and will be back on the field with the New England Patriots this week. The linebacker, who has been sidelined since suffering a mild stroke last February, has consulted with his family and plans to work out with the team on Wednesday.

10/14/2005

There is a chance that Bruschi could return to the New England Patriots in 2005, as he is making a remarkable recovery from a stroke he suffered early in the year. The linebacker has received favorable reports from doctors, but not final medical clearance nor the OK to play from his family and the team's lawyers.

Taking the 2005 campaign off to fully recover from the mild stroke he suffered just 10 days after the Super Bowl, Bruschi has vowed to return to the Patriots' lineup in 2006. The 32-year-old linebacker has three more years remaining on his contract and would be paid $850,000 in 2005, $1.35 million in 2006 and $1.7 million in 2007.

Bruschi continues to show improvement, five months after suffering a mild stroke. However, the Patriots' linebacker has decided not to push his recovery schedule too quickly, and he will not play during the upcoming 2005 campaign, according to the team. At 32 years old, Bruschi has a chance to return next season and beyond. In 16 regular-season games last year, he had 123 tackles, 3.5 sacks, three interceptions and three forced fumbles.

Bruschi told a Boston television station on Saturday that he has not decided whether he will try to play in 2005. The linebacker, who suffered a mild stroke just 10 days after the Super Bowl, has been working out at the Patriots' facilities, and says he feels great, but is taking things day-to-day.
