Tom Nutten

11/16/2005

Nutten's nagging neck injury has shown no improvement over the past couple of weeks -- in fact, it's gotten worse -- prompting the St. Louis Rams to place the veteran guard on injured reserve, officially ending his 2005 campaign. Bothered by a slightly herniated disc, Nutten will need 6-8 weeks of rest and recovery time, but surgery should not be required.

The Rams re-signed Nutten to a one-year deal on Tuesday, and the guard will return for his eighth season in the NFL. Monetary terms of the contract were not disclosed. St. Louis coaxed Nutten out of retirement prior to the start of the 2004 campaign to help along an offensive line decimated by injuries. He ended up seeing action in eight games, making six starts. For his career, the former seventh-round pick has played in 69 games (63 starts).
