Tony Richardson

3/21/2006

Richardson agreed to a two-year contract with the Vikings on Tuesday, providing new coach Brad Childress with the fullback he needs for his run-oriented offense. The two-time Pro Bowler spent the first 11 years of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Richardson returned to practice wearing an brace on his injured knee Friday and said he would be ready to play Sunday night when the Chiefs travel to Oakland to face the Raiders. The fullback injured his knee and ankle during the Chiefs' Week 1 victory over the New York Jets.

Tests on Richardson's sprained knee and ankle showed no serious damage, and the fullback could be available for Sunday's matchup with the Oakland Raiders, according to Chiefs head coach Dick Vermeil. For the time being, he has been listed as day-to-day.

Richardson did not return to the Chiefs' lineup after twisting his right knee and spraining his right ankle in Sunday's regular-season opener against the New York Jets. According to head coach Dick Vermeil, the fullback should not miss an extended period. He will be re-evaluated on Monday.
