Todd Collins

9/7/2005

Collins' recovery from a cracked bone and deep bruise in his right (throwing) hand is going well, and he's been working out with the Chiefs on a limited basis. According to head coach Dick Vermeil, the veteran signal caller will serve as the team's emergency third quarterback in Sunday's regular-season opener against the New York Jets.

Collins was slated to see more action in Friday's exhibition game against the Minnesota Vikings, but he was removed from the Chiefs' lineup after injuring his right (passing) hand. Reportedly, tests have revealed a cracked bone and a deep bruise, and the veteran quarterback could miss more than two weeks. Third-stringer Damon Huard will move up the depth chart for the time being, but Collins fully expects to be ready by the start of the regular season.
