Kerry Collins

3/10/2006

The Oakland Raiders released Kerry Collins on Friday, ending the quarterback's two-year stint with the team and saving $9.2 million against the salary cap. The decision was delayed five days after the NFL and its union postponed the start of free agency.

After temporarily losing his starting job to backup Marques Tuiasosopo in Week 14, Collins was back under center for the Raiders' matchup with the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. The veteran struggled in the contest, posting a 56.5 passer rating, his second-worst total of the 2005 campaign. He finished 14 of 30 for 132 yards, one touchdown and an interception.

12/14/2005

The Oakland Raiders gave Marques Tuiasosopo a chance to start in last week's loss to the New York Jets, but after struggling in the role, he will return to the bench this week. According to head coach Norv Turner, Collins will reclaim the top job and get the nod in Sunday's meeting with the Cleveland Browns, as he gives the team the best chance to win.

12/8/2005

As had been rumored earlier in the week, Collins has lost his job as the Raiders' starting quarterback, at least for this Sunday's matchup with the New York Jets. Leading the team to just one win in the last five games, the veteran signal caller has been benched by head coach Norv Turner in favor of backup Maques Tuiasosopo. In 12 games, Collins has completed 54.9 percent of his passes for 16 touchdowns, 10 interceptions and 259.8 yards per contest.

12/5/2005

Collins has led the Raiders to just one win in the last five games, and his struggles could have cost him his starting job. According to head coach Norv Turner, the team is seriously considering giving backup Marques Tuiasosopo the nod in next Sunday's matchup with the New York Jets. A decision is expected to be made prior to Wednesday's practice.

11/14/2005

Collins completed 26 of his season-high 50 pass attempts for 310 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 31-17 loss to the Denver Broncos, but he was picked off three times and sacked four times. Going into the contest, the Raiders' veteran quarterback had thrown just three interceptions in his previous eight games.

10/31/2005

Despite being without the services of a banged-up Randy Moss for much of the second half, Collins posted some solid numbers in Sunday's victory over the Tennessee Titans. The Raiders' quarterback completed 17 of his 29 pass attempts for 238 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Going into the game, he had found the end zone just once in his previous three contests combined.

9/26/2005

Collins topped the 300-yard mark for the first time this season, going 24 of 42 for 345 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 23-20 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. The Raiders' quarterback has a 95.9 passer rating with six touchdowns through three games this season, but has yet to lead Oakland to a victory.

Collins plans to practice at full speed with the Oakland Raiders on Wednesday after missing Monday's workout with a bruised right thumb. The quarterback, who suffered the injury when he hit his hand on a helmet in last Thursday's loss to the New England Patriots, will be under center when the team takes the field against the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday night.
