Willie McGinest

3/15/2006

McGinest signed a three-year contract worth $12 million with the Cleveland Browns, which reunites him with head coach Romeo Crennel. The 12-year veteran won three Super Bowls with the New England Patriots, where Crennel spent four years as the defensive coordinator. The 34-year-old linebacker gives the Browns a pass rush presence that they lacked in 2005.

3/9/2006

McGinest was released by the Patriots in a salary cap move that saves the team more than $7 million for next season.

1/8/2006

McGinest set NFL postseason records with 4 1/2 sacks and 16 for his career in the Patriots' 28-3 Wild Card win over the Jaguars Saturday. The Patriots' linebacker surpassed the record for postseason sacks previously held by Bruce Smith.
