Mark Brunell
6/2/2006
Brunell has a small fracture in his left index finger and is expected to miss two to three weeks of offseason workouts. Because the Redskins quarterback is left-handed, he will sit out most of the remaining spring practices although may be ready to return in time for the June 16-18 minicamp.
1/8/2006
Brunell threw for 41 yards and no touchdowns on 7 of 15 passing, but the Redskins still pulled off a 17-10 win over the Buccaneers in Saturday's Wild-Card matchup. The Redskins' quarterback was also intercepted once and sacked twice.
1/3/2006
Despite a strained ligament in his right knee, Brunell was in the Redskins' lineup for Sunday's regular-season finale against the Philadelphia Eagles. The veteran quarterback went just 9 of 25 for 141 yards, one touchdown and an interception, indicating the injury might have hindered him in the contest. However, on Monday, head coach Joe Gibbs said Brunell did not report any problems after the game, and he will be ready for the start of the playoffs.
12/31/2005
All signs are pointing to yes for Brunell this Sunday. After practicing Friday for the second straight day, the Redskins quarterback is expected to start against the Philadelphia Eagles. Earlier this week, Brunell, who sprained his right knee in last week's victory over the New York Giants, was listed as questionable for the regular-season finale this week.
12/28/2005
Brunell's sprained right knee continues to improve on a daily basis, and the Redskins are optimistic that he will be in the starting lineup for Sunday's regular-season finale against the Philadelphia Eagles. The quarterback, who officially is listed as probable, threw some passes during Wednesday's workout, but did not take part in the majority of the team drills. His status will be updated in the coming days.
12/26/2005
Brunell had an MRI on his sprained right knee Dec. 26, revealing no structural damage. He currently is listed as day-to-day, and his status for this Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles will be determined later in the week. The Washington Redskins' quarterback left a 35-20 Christmas Eve game win over the New York Giants with the injury in the third quarter.
12/24/2005
Brunell left Saturday's game against the New York Giants in the third quarter with a sprained knee. The Redskins were leading 21-17 when Brunell exited after being sacked by Nick Greisen. Brunell was 7-11 for 112 yards, two touchdowns and an interception before being replaced by Patrick Ramsey. The Redskins called Brunell's return questionable.
10/31/2005
Brunell had trouble getting the Redskins' offense moving in Sunday's 36-0 loss to the New York Giants. The veteran quarterback finished the game with a season-low 32.4 passer rating, going 11 of 28 for just 65 yards, one interception and no touchdowns. With the game well out of reach, Brunell was pulled from the lineup in favor of backup Patrick Ramsey.
10/24/2005
Brunell posted a season-high 147.9 passer rating in Sunday's 52-17 thrashing of the San Francisco 49ers, despite making only 20 pass attempts on the day. The Redskins' veteran quarterback completed 13 of those throws for 252 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. He was sacked just once.
10/21/2005
Brunell likely will take it easy on Friday after straining his left calf muscle late in practice the previous day. Although the Redskins have added the quarterback to the injury report (probable), the ailment is considered minor, and Brunell plans to be in the starting lineup against the San Francisco 49ers this weekend.
10/17/2005
Brunell posted a season-high 110.9 passer rating and topped 300 yards for the second consecutive week, but it wasn't enough as the Redskins fell to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, 28-21. The veteran quarterback finished the game 25 of 41 for 331 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions, but he was sacked four times and lost two fumbles.
10/10/2005
Brunell was busy in Sunday's meeting with the Denver Broncos, attempting a career-high 53 passes. The Redskins' veteran quarterback completed 30 of the attempts for 322 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions, but it wasn't enough, as Washington dropped the game, 21-19.
9/20/2005
It took Brunell a while to get in a groove, but he found his touch just at the right time, leading the Redskins to a comeback 14-13 victory over the Dallas Cowboys Monday night. The veteran quarterback, who was handed the starting job after Patrick Ramsey struggled in Week 1, hit Santana Moss for touchdown strikes of 39 and 70 yards in the final four minutes of Monday's win. He finished the game 20 of 34 for 291 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.
9/12/2005
After Patrick Ramsey struggled in Sunday's season opener against the Chicago Bears -- throwing an interception and fumbling twice before leaving with a minor neck injury -- the Redskins have decided to make a change at quarterback. Brunell will step into the starting role, beginning with next Monday night's meeting with the Dallas Cowboys.
