Will Shields
8/25/2005
Sidelined most of the summer with a chronically sore back, Shields returned to practice with the Kansas City Chiefs on Wednesday and said that he would be ready for the start of the regular season. The 12-year pro, who has played in 192 consecutive games since being drafted in the third round in 1993, has been a Pro Bowl selection each of the past 10 seasons.

Shields has yet to participate in Chiefs training camp this year due to a chronically sore back, but the veteran guard told reporters on Tuesday that he does not plan to retire. The 12-year pro, who has played in 192 consecutive games since being drafted in the third round in 1993, had hinted earlier in the year that he might not return in 2005. Shields currently is awaiting results from a third opinion that he received on his back injury.
