With Woody Williams going on the disabled list for a calf strain, the San Diego Padres are expected to call on Thompson. The 25-year-old right-hander will make his major league debut Wednesday night against the Arizona Diamondbacks in Phoenix. He was 5-0 with a 3.70 ERA in eight starts for Triple-A Portland.
