Mike Thompson

Thompson was called up from Triple-A Portland on Wednesday and made a spot start in Wednesday's 5-4 loss to Philadelphia. The right-hander allowed three runs and nine hits over six innings, but didn't receive a decision.

With Woody Williams going on the disabled list for a calf strain, the San Diego Padres are expected to call on Thompson. The 25-year-old right-hander will make his major league debut Wednesday night against the Arizona Diamondbacks in Phoenix. He was 5-0 with a 3.70 ERA in eight starts for Triple-A Portland.
