Josh Johnson

8/1/2006

Johnson allowed one run and five hits with eight strikeouts in seven innings for the Marlins in a 15-2 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday to earn his ninth victory of the season. It was the 22-year-old rookie right-hander's first win in four starts, since he last won on July 8 against the New York Mets.

Johnson, who went 12-4 with a 3.87 ERA for Double-A Carolina, will take A.J. Burnett's turn in the Florida rotation Friday against Atlanta. The 6-foot-7, 240-pound righthander, who is just 21 years old, threw four shutout innings in relief Saturday against the Braves. He has posted a 3.86 ERA in three appearances for Florida. Johnson is a candidate for the Marlins' rotation in 2006.
