Rasner was put on the 15-day disabled list on Saturday with soreness in his pitching shoulder. Thursday against the Tigers was the Yankees right-hander's first appearance this season. He pitched 1 2-3 innings of relief and gave up one hit.

The New York Yankees claimed Rasner off waivers on Saturday from the Nationals. The right-hander went 0-1 with a 3.68 ERA in five appearances, including one start, after being called up from the minors on Sept. 6.

The Washington Nationals recalled Rasner from Double-A Harrisburg on Monday, in order to have the 24-year-old righthander make his major league debut as the starter against Florida on Tuesday. Rasner was 6-7 with a 3.59 ERA in 26 starts and a relief appearance at Harrisburg.
