Paul Maholm

On Saturday, for the second time in four major league starts, Maholm pitched eight scoreless innings of four-hit ball. The Pirates' rookie blanked the Cincinnati Reds and claimed his second big league win, a 4-0 Pittsburgh victory. The 23-year-old lefthander fanned a career-high eight batters against the Reds, and he's now 2-0 with a 1.24 ERA since he was recalled from the minors.

Maholm enjoyed an impressive big league debut on Tuesday, working eight scoreless innings in a 6-0 Pittsburgh win over Milwaukee. The 23-year-old lefthander allowed four hits and three walks while fanning five Brewers.

On Saturday, the Pittsburgh Pirates placed rookie lefthander Zach Day on the 15-day disabled list and recalled Maholm from Triple-A Indianapolis. The 23-year-old pitching prospect was 7-3 with a 3.30 ERA in 22 starts between Double-A Altoona and Indianapolis. The southpaw was 1-1 with a 3.53 ERA in six Triple-A starts.
