Joey Devine

4/11/2006

Devine was sent down to Triple-A Richmond following Monday's game after two rough outings with the Braves to start the season. The 22-year-old Atlanta right-hander will be replaced in the bullpen by Australian Peter Moylan, who was signed in spring training after an impressive performance in the World Baseball Classic.

The Atlanta Braves on Thursday optioned right-hander Blaine Boyer to Triple-A Richmond and recalled Devine from the same affiliate. Devine was optioned to Richmond before the season, despite posting a 2.25 ERA, a win, a save and 20 strikeouts in 12 innings in camp this spring.

Called up from Double-A Mississippi earlier in the day, Devine had a rough major league debut Saturday, giving up the game-winning grand slam to Xavier Nady in the 13th inning of the Atlanta Braves loss to the San Diego Padres.
