The Washington Nationals optioned Ryan Church to Triple-A New Orleans Tuesday, meaning Watson will make the opening day roster. A pure hitter who ranks among the Nationals' better prospects, Watson split last season between Double-A Harrisburg and New Orleans. He batted .355 with 15 doubles and 69 runs scored in 88 games at the Triple-A affliate.

Watson has been optioned to Triple-A New Orleans by the Washington Nationals, opening a spot on the roster for lefthander John Halama. The 23-year-old outfielder has appeared in five games with the Nationals since making his major league debut earlier this month, going 3-for-19 with a home run and two RBI.

Watson had quite the major league debut, going 2-for-5 with a double and home run in Tuesday's victory over the Houston Astros. The outfielder, who was recalled by the Nationals earlier this week, should see plenty of playing time over the next several days, at least until Jose Guillen is able to return from a nagging shoulder injury.

The Washington Nationals have recalled Watson from Triple-A New Orleans, replacing the struggling Matt Cepicky on the roster. The outfielder, who will be making his major league debut, was batting .357 with 20 RBI and 26 steals in 73 games with the minor league club this season.
