Messenger had been optioned back to Triple-A Albuquerque by the Florida Marlins on Sunday, but instead, he will stay with the major league club, replacing the injured Jim Mecir in the bullpen. Mecir was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Monday with shoulder tendinitis.

The Florida Marlins recalled Messenger on Saturday, but he was headed back to Triple-A Albuquerque on Sunday, when starting catcher Paul Lo Duca injured his right hamstring running the bases in Florida's Saturday loss to Cincinnati. The Marlins needed some extra help behind the plate, so they recalled Triple-A catcher Ryan Jorgensen and returned Messenger to Albuquerque.

The Florida Marlins recalled Messenger from Triple-A Albuquerque on Saturday. This is the third time this season that the pitcher has been recalled from the minors. He has posted a 0-0 record and 5.11 ERA in 11 games with the Marlins on the year. Messenger takes the roster spot of Carlos Delgado, who has gone on the disabled list with elbow and hand injuries.

Making room for veteran reliever Antonio Alfonseca, the Florida Marlins have optioned Messenger to Triple-A Albuquerque. The 23-year-old righthander, who made his major league debut last month, appeared in 11 games during his short stint with the Marlins, posting a 5.11 ERA.

With Josh Beckett going on the disabled list, Messenger was recalled from the Marlins' Triple-A club in Albuquerque.

Messenger has been recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque by the Florida Marlins, replacing the struggling Chad Bentz in the bullpen. The righthander, who will be making his major league debut, is 4-1 with a 3.46 ERA in 32 relief appearances with the minor league club this season.
