Boyer was recalled from Triple-A Richmond on Saturday and placed on the 60-day disabled list to make room on the Braves' 40-man roster for reliever Kevin Barry. Boyer had surgery on his right shoulder in April after making just two relief appearances this season.

Boyer will have surgery on his right shoulder next week and is expected to miss three months, the Braves said Thursday. The relief pitcher was optioned to Triple-A Richmond last week after being diagnosed with right shoulder tendinitis. Boyer appeared in two games this season, allowing four hits, three earned runs and walking one batter.

The Atlanta Braves optioned Boyer to Triple-A Richmond Thursday. The 24-year-old right-hander struggled in two relief appearances this week, allowing four hits, a walk and three earned runs in two-thirds of an inning.
