Glenn Williams

On Wednesday, the Twins placed Williams on the 15-day disabled list with a dislocated right shoulder, suffered while diving back to first base in the fourth inning of Tuesday's 11-8 win over Kansas City. Before departing, the 27-year-old rookie extended his streak of hitting safely in every game he has played for Minnesota since being recalled on June 7.

On Wednesday, the Twins placed Williams on the 15-day disabled list with a dislocated right shoulder, an injury suffered while diving back to first base in the fourth inning of Tuesday's 11-8 win over Kansas City. An MRI has revealed that the infielder has a small tear on the front and back of the shoulder, and he is expected to be sidelined for the next 6-8 weeks.

With two hits and an RBI in Minnesota's 3-1 win over Kansas City Monday, Williams now has hit safely in all 12 major league games he has played. The former Atlanta prospect surfaced with Minnesota on June 7, and he has batted .421 (16-for-38) in 12 games, mostly playing third base.

At least in the short term, Williams seems to have secured the third-base job over incumbent Michael Cuddyer. The 27-year-old Williams, a former Atlanta prospect who has surfaced in the majors for the first time, has hit safely in all 11 games he has played, batting .400 (14-for-35) while mostly playing at third.

Looking for more versatility for their injury-riddled infield, the Minnesota Twins recalled Williams from Triple-A Rochester over the weekend. The 27-year-old Australian, who was a big free-agent signing by Atlanta in 1994, can play first, second or third base. He was batting .302 with four homers and 19 RBI in 47 games for Rochester. Williams awaits his major league debut.
