7/23/2006

The Royals recalled Costa from Triple-A Omaha on Saturday. The 24-year-old outfielder was hitting .381 with eight homers and 19 RBIs in 30 games for Omaha.

Costa was placed on the 15-day disabled list by Kansas City on Saturday, leaving the Royals without their top two center fielders. David DeJesus is out with strained left hamstring, as is Costa. He hurt himself running out a double in Friday night's 5-3 loss to Oakland. Kerry Robinson was called up from Triple-A Omaha to replace Costa in the starting lineup.

On Wednesday, the Kansas City Royals recalled infielder Donnie Murphy and optioned Costa to Double-A Wichita. The Royals' outfield had an extra body after Chip Ambres was acquired in the Tony Graffanino trade with Boston, and Costa departs with a .235 average, two homers and 13 runs scored in 27 games with the Royals.

After designating veteran Eli Marrero for assignment on Tuesday, the Kansas City Royals recalled Costa from Double-A Wichita. The 23-year-old outfielder, a second-round pick in 2003, was batting .274 with five homers and 27 RBI for Wichita after getting off to a slow start.
