Todd Self

6/13/2005

The Houston Astros optioned Self to Triple-A Round Rock over the weekend. The 26-year-old first baseman spent a month in the big leagues after his first promotion, batting .200 (9-for-45) with two doubles, a homer and four RBI.

With veteran Jeff Bagwell landing on the 15-day disabled list, Self has been recalled from Triple-A Round Rock by the Houston Astros to fill the void on the roster. The first baseman has appeared in 28 games with the minor league club this season, batting .391 with two home runs, 15 RBI and one stolen base. He will be making his major league debut.

Self is known more for his ability to get on base rather than his power at the plate. His career OBP in the minor leagues is better than .400. Although Mike Lamb should see most of the starts at first base in Bagwell's absence, Self, Lance Berkman and Jose Vizcaino all could see time there as well.
