Sean Henn

6/27/2005

Henn, filling in for injured Yankees starters lately, was optioned to Triple-A Columbus Sunday after not finishing five innings in either of his two recent starts. In three starts for New York this season, the 24-year-old southpaw is 0-3 with an 11.12 ERA. He has allowed 18 hits and 11 walks in 11.1 innings, while fanning just three.

In his second major league start Monday, Henn was roughed up by Tampa Bay for a second time. The 24-year-old lefthander walked seven batters and allowed four hits and four runs in 4.2 innings against the Rays, and took his second loss. He has posted a 10.29 ERA over seven big league innings.

Henn will make his second major league start when he fills in for Kevin Brown on Monday. Henn allowed six runs in just 2.1 innings in his major league debut on May 4, when he was called up from Double-A Trenton to fill in for Randy Johnson. Since then, Henn has gone 4-2 with a 3.19 ERA at Triple-A Columbus.

Henn was roughed up in his major league debut Wednesday, allowing seven hits and five earned runs over 2.1 innings of an 11-8 Yankees loss to Tampa Bay. The Yankees optioned Henn to Triple-A Columbus soon after the game, which allowed for the return of veteran Tanyon Sturtze from the disabled list. Henn had made a spot start for the injured Randy Johnson, but the 24-year-old lefthander didn't make a good first impression.

Still, going to Columbus was a promotion for Henn, who was 2-1 with a 0.71 ERA in four starts for Double-A Trenton before his big league debut. He will make his Triple-A debut in the next few days.

On Tuesday, the New York Yankees recalled Henn from Double-A Trenton to make one spot start for Randy Johnson on Wednesday night. Johnson tweaked a groin in his last outing, and the Yankees chose to be especially cautious with their ace, who wanted to face Tampa Bay on Wednesday. Henn is 2-1 with a 0.71 ERA in four starts for Trenton. He has recorded 21 strikeouts and nine walks in 25.1 innings of work.

The Yankees optioned Bubba Crosby to Triple-A Columbus to make room for Henn.
