Norihiro Nakamura

5/9/2005

Nakamura has been designated for assignment by the Los Angeles Dodgers. The third baseman, hos spent the last 13 years in the Japanese Pacific League, has struggled in his first year in the majors, batting just .128 with three RBI in 17 games. He will be replaced on the roster by infielder Oscar Robles.

The Dodgers have 10 days to trade Nakamura, release him or send him outright to the minor leagues. With Jose Valentin sidelined indefinitely, the team will look to Mike Edwards, Olmedo Saenz and Robles to fill the void at the hot corner.
