Luke Scott

9/11/2005

Scott has been listed as day-to-day after bruising his hip in Saturday's meeting with the Milwaukee Brewers. The Astros' outfielder suffered the injury when he slammed into the outfield wall trying to rob Corey Hart of a home run in the third inning. He hit in the fourth, but left in favor of Chris Burke shortly thereafter.

The Houston Astros recalled Scott on Monday. The 27-year-old outfielder was hitting .286 with 25 doubles, 31 homers, 87 RBI and a .603 slugging mark in 103 games for Triple-A Round Rock. In a stint with the Astros this spring, Scott was 6-for-39 (.154) with a triple and four runs scored.

Scott has been optioned to Triple-A Round Rock by the Houston Astros, opening a spot on the roster for righthander Ezequiel Astacio, who is slated to take the mound against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday. In 16 games this season, the outfielder is batting .154 with one RBI and stolen base, but has struck out 13 times in 39 at-bats.

Scott was filling in for the injured Lance Berkman in left field, but had been losing time of late to Mike Lamb. With Berkman expected back shortly, the Astros were able to demote Scott to allow him to get at-bats on a daily basis and regain his stroke.

Scott, who has been filling in for the injured Lance Berkman in the Astros' outfield this season, was absent from the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals, due to a sore right shoulder. However, the injury is considered minor, and he was able to pinch-hit in the eighth inning. He should return to regular duty within the next couple of days.

Berkman is expected to be activated within the next couple of weeks, and Scott likely will become the team's fourth outfielder at that time. In 14 games this season, he is batting .154 with one RBI and a stolen base, and is hitless in his last 20 at-bats.
