Chien-Ming Wang

4/1/2006

Wang was picked as the No. 3 starter by Yankees manager Joe Torre on Friday. The right hander was 8-5 with a 4.02 ERA in 2005. He joins Randy Johnson, Mike Mussina, Shawn Chacon and Jaret Wright in the New York rotation.

Activated from the disabled list on Tuesday, Wang is scheduled to start for New York on Thursday, when the Yankees host Tampa Bay at Yankee Stadium. Wang, who made his last big league start on July 8 because of shoulder inflammation, is 6-3 with a 3.89 ERA in 12 starts and a relief appearance.

On Tuesday, the Yankees activated Wang from the 15-day disabled list. The rookie righthander had been on the DL since July 9 with right shoulder inflammation. It's uncertain that Wang will return to New York's starting rotation. He may be asked to help in the bullpen for the stretch run.

Rehabbing a shoulder strain that included significant inflammation, Wang pitched three innings for Triple-A Columbus on Monday, giving up one run on two hits, walking one and striking out three. The 25-year-old rookie will make at least one more rehab start before returning to the Yankees' rotation. He is 6-3 with a 3.89 ERA in 12 starts and a relief appearance for New York.

Wang, who has been out of the Yankees' rotation for a month, threw off flat ground from 120 feet on Tuesday. Rehabbing a shoulder strain that included significant inflammation, the 25-year-old righthander should work off a mound sometime next week. It's conceivable he will return to the Yankees before the end of the regular season.

Wang received some good news Monday, when Dr. James Andrews diagnosed the Yankees' rookie with inflammation and a shoulder strain. The Yankees feared a serious injury that could shut him down for the season, and now there's some hope that won't happen. The 25-year-old rookie, who went on the disabled list Wednesday, is 6-3 with a 3.89 ERA in 12 starts and a relief appearance for New York.

The shoulder inflammation that forced Wang onto the disabled list Wednesday will have the 25-year-old righthander visiting Dr. Jame Andrews on Monday. The New York Yankees obviously believe the injury is serious enough to send Wang to a specialist, though the team is not revealing specifics of what it fears is wrong. There is speculation that Wang's season is over.

Wang, who was recalled to replace the injured Kevin Brown, has joined the ranks of the injured himself. The New York Yankees have placed the 25-year-old righthander on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation of the right shoulder, retroactive to June 9. He was 6-3 with a 3.89 ERA in 12 starts and a relief appearance for New York.

While Kevin Brown's tender left shoulder has improved, Wang will work his start in St. Louis on Friday. The Yankees' righthander has been getting steady work with injuries to the New York rotation, and Wang has worked quality starts in five of his seven outings. The 25-year-old prospect is 3-1 with a 4.03 ERA for the Yankees.

5/11/2005

Wang worked his second quality start in three major league outings Tuesday, limiting Seattle to four hits and three runs over 7.1 innings for his first big league victory. The rookie righthander evened his record to 1-1 and has a 4.43 ERA and .234 opponent batting average for the Yankees.

Wang has been recalled and will start against Toronto on Saturday at Yankee Stadium. The promising righthander was 2-0 with a 4.15 ERA and a .276 opponent batting average in four starts for Triple-A Columbus.

The Taiwan native could stick with the Yankees in 2005, in light of Wright's injury and Kevin Brown's ineffectiveness. Wang pitched for Taiwan's Olympic team last summer, shutting down Japan's team of major league professionals for seven innings. His first test against major league professionals in North America comes on Saturday.

The New York Yankees will recall Wang to start in place of Jaret Wright on Saturday. The Taiwan native will pitch against the Blue Jays at Yankee Stadium. At Triple-A Columbus, Wang is 2-0 with a 4.15 ERA and a .276 opponent batting average in four starts.

Wang is one of the few advanced pitching prospects remaining, as the Yankees have tended to use them to acquire veterans via trades. He could become a key player for the Yankees in 2005, in light of Wright's injury and Kevin Brown's ineffectiveness. Wang pitched for Taiwan's Olympic team last summer, shutting down Japan's team of professionals for seven innings before Colorado prospect Chin-Hui Tsao coughed up the lead and Taiwan's chance to advance to the medal round.
