Felix Hernandez

3/28/2006

Hernandez, widely considered the best young pitcher in the game, was scratched from his scheduled start on Tuesday. The Seattle right-hander developed shin splints on Sunday, and the team says he's skipping the start as a precaution. Hernandez had the leg taped on Monday and walked without a limp when he joined the team for warmups on the practice field.

Hernandez fanned three in three innings of scoreless work for the Mariners on Sunday against the Rangers.

After enduring his roughest big league outing at Texas on Friday, Hernandez carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning en route to a 3-2 Seattle win over Toronto on Wednesday. The teenager departed after 7.1 scoreless innings, after allowing a pair of hits. He walked three and struck out six Rangers.

Hernandez, Seattle's 19-year-old phenom, limited Oakland to four hits and a walk over seven scoreless innings Monday, and he earned his third win in a 2-0 decision over the A's. The teenager is 3-2 with a 1.59 ERA in seven starts. He has allowed just 31 hits and 10 walks in 51 frames, while fanning 50. Hernandez has six straight quality starts and hasn't allowed more than three runs in any of his seven big league outings.

After shutting out the Minnesota Twins for eight innings in his last start, Hernandez was just as effective on Monday. The Mariners' 19-year-old rookie limited the Royals to a run on just three hits and a walk over eight frames. He struck out 11 Kansas City hitters en route to the 11-3 victory.

8/10/2005

Hernandez, the Seattle Mariners' gifted teenager, blanked the Minnesota Twins for eight innings in his second big league start on Tuesday. The 19-year-old righthander allowed just five hits and didn't walk a batter in Seattle's 1-0 victory. Hernandez fanned six, and Eddie Guardado worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning to shut the door on his former teammates.
