Adam Stern

9/26/2005

Stern's season is over, as the Boston prospect flew to Los Angeles on Sunday to undergo surgery on his right labrum. A Rule 5 pick from Atlanta, the 25-year-old outfielder was 2-for-15 (.133) with a homer during a 2005 season made brief by a fractured right thumb and his shoulder injury.

Stern has been placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Boston Red Sox, due to a sprained right thumb. The rookie outfielder, who will be replaced on the roster by reliever Lenny DiNardo, has appeared in 30 games with the Sox this season, going 2-for-15 with a home run, two RBI and a stolen base.

Stern has been activated from the 60-day disabled list by the Boston Red Sox after missing some time with a broken right thumb and sore hamstring. During a recent minor league rehab stint with Triple-A Pawtucket, the outfielder batted .303 with two home runs and 14 RBI in 18 games and strung together a 16-game hit streak. He will be making his major league debut.
