The Washington Nationals have purchased Godwin's contract from Triple-A New Orleans, filling the roster spot of starting pitcher John Patterson, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday. In 44 games with the minor league club this season, the outfielder was batting .333 with nine doubles, two home runs, 12 RBI and 11 stolen bases.
