The Washington Nationals have recalled Hughes from Triple-A New Orleans, filling the roster spot of righthander Ryan Drese, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a sore shoulder. In 49 appearances with the minor league club this season, Hughes went 2-4 with a 2.65 ERA and 12 saves.

Hughes has been optioned to Triple-A New Orleans by the Washington Nationals to open a spot on the roster for veteran lefthander Joey Eischen, who will be activated from the 15-day disabled list in time for Friday's game against the Chicago Cubs. The 27-year-old righthander appeared in just four games during his short stint with the major league club, allowing two runs and striking out three in 4.1 scoreless innings.

The Washington Nationals recalled Hughes from Triple-A New Orleans on Saturday. He takes the roster spot of T.J. Tucker, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a hyperextended pitching elbow.

The Washington Nationals have claimed Hughes off waivers from the Texas Rangers. The righthander, who went 1-3 with a 10.24 ERA in eight exhibition appearances this spring, will be assigned to Triple-A New Orleans.
