Chris Young

4/24/2006

Young will have an MRI exam Monday as the San Diego Padres explore why the right-hander has been experiencing a lack of feeling in his right thumb. The ailment forced Young out of his Saturday start against the New York Mets. He took the loss in an 8-1 decision, but left after four innings. "I felt like I had my thumb stuck in a freezer. I couldn't tell if my thumb was even on the right spot on the ball."

Young was traded to the San Diego Padres on Tuesday as part of a six-player deal. The 26-year-old was 12-7 with a 4.26 ERA in 31 starts for Texas last year.

After making his first start in two weeks last Thursday because of arm fatigue, Young is in line to take another turn for the Texas Rangers on Wednesday. The rookie righthander is likely to face Seattle in his final start of 2005. Young is 11-7 with a 4.23 ERA in 30 starts for the Rangers.

Young is penciled in to start Thursday for the Texas Rangers, after battling arm fatigue since leaving a start on September 7. The 26-year-old righthander, one of the top rookie pitchers of 2005, will oppose one of his equally gifted peers, rookie righthander Ervin Santana of the Angels.

9/14/2005

Young threw on flat ground on Tuesday, testing his arm for the first time since departing a start against Minnesota after one inning on September 7. The Rangers would like to have their rookie righthander back on a mound in a few days, which could set the stage for Young returning to the Texas rotation late next week with a little more than a week left in the season.

Instead of starting on Tuesday, Young will test his tired by throwing on the side. It will be the first time he has thrown since last Wednesday in Minnesota, when he first tested his arm.

9/8/2005

After leaving his Thursday afternoon start with a tired arm, Young will miss his next start for the Texas Rangers and could be shut down for the season. The 26-year-old rookie, who has pitched impressively since the beginning of August, is 11-7 with a 4.19 ERA in 29 starts.

9/7/2005

Young left his Thursday afternoon start for Texas after just one inning because of a tired arm. There have been concerns about the rookie's workload, and perhaps Young will be shut down for the remainder of the 2005 campaign. The 26-year-old righthander is 11-7 with a 4.19 ERA in 29 starts.

7/9/2005

Rangers manager Buck Showalter has stated that Young will receive additional rest following the All-Star break. Sources have reported that Young will not start until July 18 when the Rangers play the Yankees.

5/20/2005

On Thursday, Young was treated for back stiffness by Rangers medical personnel, but the rookie righthander is expected to make his Saturday start against Houston. Young, who turns 26 next Wednesday, is 3-2 with a 3.18 ERA in eight starts for Texas this season.

5/10/2005

After pitching eight scoreless innings against Detroit on Monday, Young has worked back-to-back scoreless starts. He blanked Oakland for 5.2 innings on May 3, giving the rookie righthander a streak of 13.2 scoreless frames over those two outings.

Detroit scored two ninth-inning runs off Texas closer Francisco Cordero for a 2-0 Tigers win. Despite the no-decision, Young is 3-2 with a 3.12 ERA and 1.34 WHIP.
