John Webb

5/2/2005

To make room for Damon Hollins on the 25-man roster, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays have designated Webb for assignment. The 25-year-old righthander made one appearance for the Rays this season, allowing six hits, four walks and eight earned runs in a four-inning start against Texas on April 20. He took the loss, his only decision over five big league appearances for his career. He was 1-1 with a 3.38 ERA in four games (three starts) at Triple-A Durham.

The Devil Rays have 10 days to trade, release or request waivers on Webb.

Barely more than 24 hours after Webb was recalled to start Wednesday night's game against Texas, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays returned the 25-year-old righthander to Triple-A Durham. He allowed six hits, four walks and eight earned runs in four innings against Texas, and he took the loss, his first major league decision in five big league appearances.

Webb returns to Durham, where he was 1-0 over nine scoreless innings and two starts.

The Tampa Bay Devil Rays have placed righthander Mark Hendrickson on the disabled list with a shoulder ailment and have recalled Webb to take his place in the rotation. The 25-year-old righthander will start against Texas on Wednesday night.

Webb has made two starts at Triple-A Durham, working nine scoreless innings and limiting International League hitters to a .216 average. He is 1-0 on the season.
