On Saturday, the Chicago Cubs optioned Todd Wellemeyer to Triple-A Iowa and recalled Novoa from the same affiliate. In two previous stints with the Cubs this season, the 25-year-old Novoa was 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA in eight relief appearances.

Novoa has been optioned to Triple-A Iowa by the Chicago Cubs, opening a spot on the roster for fellow reliever Mike Remlinger, who was activated from the 15-day disabled list on Sunday. In eight appearances with the major league club this season, Novoa has posted a 1-1 record and 4.50 ERA.

Creating a roster spot for Jon Leicester, who got the starting nod against the Cincinnati Reds on Monday, the Chicago Cubs have optioned Novoa to Triple-A Iowa. In his short stint with the major league club, Novoa made five relief appearances, going 0-1 with a 6.23 ERA.

Novoa returns to Iowa, where he was 1-1 with a 2.08 ERA and two saves this season prior to being recalled.

Novoa has been recalled from Triple-A Iowa by the Chicago Cubs, taking the roster spot of the struggling Jon Leicester. In nine relief appearances with the minor league club this season, Novoa was 1-1 with a 2.08 ERA and two saves.

Novoa gives the Cubs a much-needed fresh arm in the bullpen. He will pitch in middle relief.
