Josh Willingham

4/5/2006

Willingham, playing in left field Tuesday, hit a pair of solo homers in Florida's 11-2 rout of the Houston Astros. He stroked his first home run of the season off the Astros' Andy Pettitte in the first inning, then hit another against Chad Qualls in the sixth.

The Marlins activated Willingham from the 15-day disabled list on Friday. The catcher had been sidelined since early July with a stress fracture in his left forearm. Willingham is hitless in two at bats with the Marlins this season.

Willingham will be sidelined indefinitely after tests revealed that he has a stress fracture in his left forearm. The Marlins have placed the reserve catcher on the 15-day disabled list and filled his spot on the roster with outfielder Chris Aguila. Recalled on June 24, Willingham has gone hitless in just two at-bats with the major league club this year.

Willingham has been recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque by the Florida Marlins, replacing struggling infielder Joe Dillon. The catcher will serve as a backup behind the plate, but could get a start or two at designated hitter in the Marlins' weekend interleague series against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
